Work Samples

NetW490

The NetW490 Class is the Senior Project class for the DeVry University Bachelors of Science, Network Engineering and Communications Management students final project. The class utilized all of the skills learned throughout my  time attending DeVry as well as on the job experience. The project consisted of a real world example where the four students were teamed up to work as a Consulting firm for a large company. The firm was contracted to review, design and create a request for proposal for the company. I was tasked as the Team Leader/Project manager. Our goal was to gather pertinent information from the company and design a network that fit the needs of the company while staying within a set budget.

As the Team Leader/Project Manager, I was tasked in ensuring that all team members contributed to the project and ensured that there was communication. In addition to the communication, I made sure that we had proper file keeping and data retention.  The Team and myself chose a standard three layer hierarchical network with built in redundancy. The network employed mature technology and networking standards within the scope of the project. The project was within budget and given the eight week time frame with six weeks being used to conceptualize and design the network.

NetW410

While taking the NetW410 class, the final project consisted of analyzing a Colleges computer network and redesigning it to fit the Colleges need while upgrading the network within the specification. The primary part of the network redesign centered on consolidating each of the separate networks located in multiple building into a single converged network under a single Administrative domain with all building terminating into a single IT Wiring Department Wing.

The following three images is the conceptualized network diagrams for the College’s network redesign.  Each image is considered a logical network diagram as it groups all of the information into a logical format which is easier to read and to get a good grasp of how the network is arranged.

Computer Repair and Networking.

Often I find myself building computers, repairing computers and connecting computers to networks. Over the years I have done this work as a small business. The business name is Echelon Computer’s and it is a part time computer business that I own and operate. A majority of the work is repairing desktop computers. Common issues I repair are crashed operating systems, Virus/Spyware/Malware infections, and hardware installation and upgrades.

Other times I am tasked with designing and building custom computers to the specifications custom to the customer’s needs. Recently, I built I high end gaming computer for a computer enthusiast who wanted a custom computer who was novice in their computer skills.  I worked with the customer and designed a computer that would fit their needs and their budget working with the hardware they had while upgrading hardware that was needed. Overall the computer that was built was a cost effective custom computer which was what the customer wanted.
